Stone Canyon Properties is pleased to announce the creation of a new website focused solely on the unique enclave of Tuscan Estates, located on the western edge of the Stone Canyon community. Currently Sombra Homes has one spec home nearly complete with Tuscan Estates and two more planned to begin construction in the near future. Practice Field Open Again!

The Practice Field at Stone Canyon officially re-opened on Friday, August 31st after several months of renovation. Congratulations to Terry Todd and his staff on a job well done. Along with re-surfacing, the maintenance crew used the time to complete a few other projects as well. The practice bunkers were re-shaped and the bunker tongues were removed to create more space within the bunkers for practice. Also, the area between the putting green and main practice tee was landscaped around the desert habitat signage. The finished product is a cleaner look with fewer maintenance requirements.

The final addition was creating a more clearly visible aiming point in contrast to a standard flagstick. Large aiming poles were produced with black and white striping to catch the golfer’s eye and make better use of laser range finders. All those playing soon should enjoy these subtle changes that were made and of course the excellent hitting conditions on the newly re-surfaced turf. Another upcoming maitnenance project will be the putting aerification and top-dressing on September 17th & 18th. This is a time consuming process and requires an additional half day of closure. The course will remain closed Monday, September 17th and will re-open Tuesday, September 18th at 1:00p.m.

Busy Sales Week

Stone Canyon experienced a busy wave of closings this past week. Two custom homes in Phase I closed escrow and a custom homesite in Stonegate as well. Activity has continued to be quite high for this time of year, which is a positive sign heading through the summer and into next season. Tucson’s real estate market in general has been heating up for the past half year and this momentum looks like it will carry over into the luxury market as expected, albeit slightly behind the lower price points. There are still excellent buying opportunities present in the marketplace today, although as this inventory gets bought up there will be fewer really good selections. Mike Russell Set To Compete in PGA Professional National Championship

The Stone Canyon Club’s Director of Club Operations, Mike Russell, will be among the 312 PGA Professionals competing in the 45th PGA Professional National Championship, qualifying from among 28,000 PGA Professionals nationwide. Mike qualified for this honor via the 2011 Southwest Section PGA Professional Championship where he ultimately finished in a tie for 2nd, after a 3-way playoff decided the champion. The Professional National Championship will be held June 24th-27th on the Bayonet & Black Horse golf courses in Seaside, California, which overlook the spectacular Monterey Peninsula. This is the fourth time Mike has qualified to play in this prestigious event (2005 at The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island, South Carolina; 2006 at the Turning Stone Resort in Verona, New York; and 2010 at the French Lick Resort in French Lick, Indiana).

The top 20 finishers at the 45th PGA Professional National Championship will qualify for the 2012 PGA Championship, set for August 9th-12th at The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Golf Resort. In addition, the winner will receive $75,000, the honor of having his name engraved on the Walter Hagen Cup, exemptions into six PGA Tour events over the next twelve months, and a spot on next year’s U.S. PGA Cup Team.

The PGA Professional National Championship is the showcase event for PGA Professionals, featuring some of the finest players in the country. The Championship will be broadcast on The Golf Channel and has a potential audience of 110 million.

First Round Coverage: Sunday, June 24th from 9:30 – 11:30pm EDT
Second Round Coverage: Monday, June 25th from 3:30 – 6:00pm EDT
Third Round Coverage: Tuesday, June 26th from 4:00 – 7:00pm EDT
Final Round Coverage: Wednesday, June 27th from 4:00 – 7:00pm EDT

Unfortunately the second round at the Bayonet course wasn’t kind to Mike and even after his opening round 73 put him in good position he didn’t make the cut for the final two rounds of competition. We again congratulate Mike for qualifying and representing Stone Canyon at this premier event. This surely won’t be the last time he qualifies for the tournament and next time hopefully the ball bounces his way a bit more.
